Sara Saltiel Levy

Sara Saltiel, of West New York, NJ, passed away at the age of 97, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, of natural causes.
She was born in Istanbul, Turkey on January 1,1925 and traveled with her parents to Cuba, where she grew up in the city of Placetas. She received her degrees in music theory and piano education from the National Conservatory of Music in Havana.
Sara opened her first piano studio for young children in Fomento, Cuba. In 1967, she emigrated to the United States with her family. She settled in West New York, NJ, where she and her daughter, the late Raquel Kuznez, started teaching piano in the early 1970s. For nearly 40 years, Sara’s Piano Studio graduated several generations of students, many of whom have gone on to musical careers. Sara’s talent as a musical educator, cheerful disposition and business acumen made her a role model to the hundreds of young people who became her students. Sara’s Piano Studio had a substantial impact in the educational life of the West New York Community and received consistently high accolades from Carnegie Hall evaluators during its yearly end-of-term exams.
Sara is preceded in death by her parents, Rebeca Levy and Salvador Saltiel, her former husband, Arturo Kuznez, her brothers, Isaac, Moisés and José Saltiel and her beloved daughter Raquel Kuznez. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Estrella Palacios, her brother, Dr. Alberto Saltiel, her many nieces and nephews and her former student, Alice Font Nieves, who she loved as a daughter and who looked after her until her final moments.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 13th, at Barquin Funeral Home in Guttenberg, NJ, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Interment to follow funeral service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, NJ.
