Rita M. Gilfillan nació en La Habana, Cuba, donde su vida transcurrió rodeada de familia, cultura y tradiciones arraigadas que la acompañaron a lo largo de los años.
Falleció pacíficamente el jueves 15 de enero de 2026 en Hudson View, en North Bergen, Nueva Jersey, dejando un legado de amor, fortaleza y devoción a su familia.
Madre, abuela y bisabuela ejemplar, Rita era el corazón de su familia. Su hogar era un lugar de consuelo, donde abundaban las risas y todos se sentían bienvenidos.
Rita también fue una hermana muy querida, manteniendo lazos estrechos que reflejaban su profundo sentido de la familia. Llevó consigo los valores del trabajo arduo, la fe y la perseverancia, inspirando a todos los que la conocieron.
Será recordada por su bondad, su fortaleza y la serena gracia con la que vivió su vida. Su legado perdura a través de las muchas vidas que tocó y la familia que crió con tanto amor.
A Rita le precedieron en la muerte su esposo, Rolando A. Gilfillan, y su hijo Alfredo R. Gilfillan.
Le sobreviven su querida hija, Livia K. Gilfillan, y sus adorados nietos, Veronica Blanco, Rita Bergman, Oscar Morejon, así como sus queridos bisnietos, Jordan Cora, Izabella Morejon, Ivan Morejon, Emma Bergman y Devon Bergman.
La familia encuentra consuelo al saber que su vida fue larga y plena, y que su amor seguirá sintiéndose por generaciones.
Será profundamente extrañada y recordada con cariño para siempre.
El velorio para familiares y amigos se llevará a cabo el lunes 19 de enero de 2026, de 4:00 a 8:00 p. m. en la funeraria.
El velorio matutino será en la funeraria de 8:00 a 9:00 a. m.
Se ofrecerá una misa fúnebre el martes 20 de enero de 2026, a las 9:30 a. m. en la Iglesia Católica St. Joseph’s of the Palisades en West New York, Nueva Jersey.
El entierro tendrá lugar posteriormente en el cementerio de Arlington en Kearny, Nueva Jersey.
Rita M. Gilfillan was born in Havana, Cuba, where her life began surrounded by family, culture, and deep-rooted traditions that stayed with her throughout her years.
She passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15th, 2026, at Hudson View in North Bergen, NJ, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion to family.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Rita was the heart of her family. Her home was a place of comfort, where laughter was abundant, and everyone felt welcome.
Rita was also a cherished sister, maintaining close bonds that reflected her deep sense of family. She carried with her the values of hard work, faith, and perseverance, inspiring all who knew her.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the quiet grace with which she lived her life. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family she nurtured with such love.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Rolando A. Gilfillan, and her son Alfredo R. Gilfillan.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Livia K. Gilfillan, and her adored grandchildren, Veronica Blanco, Rita Bergman, Oscar Morejon, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Jordan Cora, Izabella Morejon, Ivan Morejon, Emma Bergman, and Devon Bergman.
The family finds comfort in knowing that her life was long and full, and that her love will continue to be felt for generations to come.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, January 19th, 2026, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Morning visitation will be at the funeral home from 8:00 – 9:00 am.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, at 9:30 am at St Joseph’s of the Palisades R.C. Church in West New York, NJ.
Interment to follow at Arlington Cemetery in Kearny, NJ.
