Rebecca M. Sheetz Obituary

Rebecca “Becca” Mary Sheetz passed away on June 30, 2026, in North Bergen, New Jersey, at the age of 36. Born on September 25, 1989, in St. Louis, Missouri, Becca lived a life marked by extraordinary love, generosity, and a spirit that was truly larger than life. She grew up in the Midwest, spending much of her childhood and teenage years in Indianapolis and her college years in Bloomington at Indiana University. In each place, she built deep and lasting friendships that remained an important part of her life.

Becca was married to the love of her life, Akash Bangalore Kantharaj, and together they made their gorgeous “condo in the city” a home filled with warmth, joy, and love, shared with their beloved fur-babies, Lily, also known as Lily Bean, and Felipe. Becca was the keeper of family lore, and she never forgot a date.

An exceptional speech language pathologist, Becca was loved by her co-workers and by the many patients whose lives she touched. She brought deep care, compassion, and a vibrant presence to her work, and she gave of herself fully to those around her. Whether with her husband, her family, her friends, or anyone fortunate enough to be in her presence, Becca loved big and made people feel it. Her greatest unfulfilled dream was to be a mother and for Akash to be a father.

Family was precious to Becca. She was the daughter of Martha Griffith Kenley and Matt Sheetz, and the stepdaughter of Steve Kenley and Nicole Sheetz. She is survived by her parents and step-parents; her siblings Maggie Sheetz Lesch, Daniel Lesch, and her precious niece, Charlotte Lesch; Teddy Sheetz and Emma Cleary; Sadie Sheetz; and Sawyer Sheetz.

She is also survived by her adored parents-in-law, Kantharaj Bangalore Gangappa and Bharathi Nateshan, who welcomed and loved her as their very own daughter. Becca is further survived by her grandmother, Barb Griffith; her aunt Jan Griffith McKnight and family; her uncle Michael Griffith and family; her aunt Martha Sheetz Keep and family; and many wonderful cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Dale Griffith; her grandmother, Mary Sheetz; her grandfather, David Sheetz; and her uncle, Mike Sheetz.

Please join us in one or both ways to honor and remember Becca. First, a visitation and viewing will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Barquin Funeral Home, 7101 Broadway, Guttenberg, NJ 07093. At 3:00 p.m., we will be holding time for remarks. We warmly invite anyone wishing to share a “Becca story”, poem, prayer or a few words to do so. Second, a celebration of life and of Becca’s birthday will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at The Sheetz Home, 303 Blue Ridge Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46208. More details will be shared closer to the date.

The sudden sorrow of her passing overwhelms us, yet we are deeply grateful for every year, month, day, hour, minute, and second we had with Becca during her far too short 36 years.
