Of North Bergen, NJ he was born in Villa Vazquez, Dominican Republic to his parents Teofilo Cruz Betances and Ceelia Maria Olivo (Sanchez).

Rafael will always be remembered by his loving children Luna Cruz-Sarameh and Sky Cruz.

He also leaves behind his dear brother Freddie Cruz.
