Nilda Sara Hernandez

Nilda Sara Hernandez entered everlasting life at the side of her daughter on Friday, November 24th, 2023 at her residence. 

Nilda was born in Matanzas, Cuba to her parents, Luis Antonio Grillo and Emma Perez. 

Nilda was married to her beloved husband, Santiago T. Hernandez, Director at Equitable Life Assurance Company on December 26, 1954. He predeceased her on June 18, 2014.

Nilda was the mother of two children, Her son, Sandy Hernandez, a student at William Paterson College, predeceased her on December 29, 1978 and her loving daughter, the Honorable Judge Nilda Caridad  Hernandez whom survives.

Nilda will be remembered by her dear sister, Berta Socorro, her cherished niece Emma Benavidez, and her adored nephews Jesus and Noel Socorro. Nilda loved and adored her husband's family as much as her own. Close to her heart were both nephews, Bertico and Fernando Medina, and their respective families as well as her niece Margarita Basulto and her family. In Nilda's world, lifelong friends were adopted family members and all their children were nieces and nephews, as her living room will attest to, having somewhere around 100 picture frames of those she endeared. 

Once in a lifetime an angel crosses the path of your life and leaves immeasurable gifts of love, kindness, consideration, compassion, sympathy, empathy, generosity, and happiness. Such was she, a blessing to all whom knew her. She will be missed and lamented by family, friends, and neighbors. 

Nilda was lastly a proud Cuban-American. She was always grateful to this country whom welcomed her with open arms in 1962. Nonetheless, she is well known for her fondness of Cuban food, Cuban music, and Cuban customs. To those of us, within that culture, she was a real CUBANAZA!

Nilda was a lifelong resident of Weehawken and traveled to Florida with her then-husband as snowbirds. 

Morning visitation for friends and family will be offered on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home. 

Entombment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum, Fairview, NJ
