Maira Echevarria

Maira Echevarria, a longtime resident of Guttenberg, New Jersey, died peacefully on the morning of Sunday, January 18, 2026, at home with family by her side.

Maira was born in Union de Reyes, Cuba, on December 29, 1960.  She immigrated from Cuba to Madrid, Spain, with her parents and brother in 1969.

Her grandparents were from Asturias and the Canary Islands, Spain. Her family moved from Spain to the United States and eventually settled in Hudson County, New Jersey, in 1973.  

She is survived by her husband, Mario F. Echevarria, her daughter, Amanda Isabel, son Mario Antonio, mother Nelia Otero, brother Celso Otero, and her three granddaughters, Eva, Sofia, and Olivia Castellanos.  

From 1994 to 1998, Maira was president of Corporate Marketing Solutions, Inc, a data processing and fulfillment company with 45 employees.  

She became a full-time stay-at home-mom in 1998 and enjoyed time with family, vacationing, gardening, volunteering in school, and, most recently, caring for her three granddaughters and elderly mother.

She was a loving wife, mother, and daughter who cared deeply for her family and friends. May she rest in peace in heaven with her father, Evangelio F. Otero.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 23rd at 11:00 am at St. Mary R.C. Church, West New York, NJ.

Entombment to follow at Flower Hill Mausoleum in North Bergen, NJ.
