Juan Pablo Zapaterio, Entered everlasting rest on August 11, 2023, in New York City.
Juan Pablo was born on June 23, 1986, in Cartagena, Colombia. He was named after Pope John Paul II. He moved to West New York at the age of nine and lived there until 2020. Graduated from Memorial High School and obtained his Bachelor degree in Art Education with a minor in Art History at Kean University in 2010 and his Master’s in Fine Arts/Ceramics at New Jersey City University in 2016 later returning to teach at his devoted former High School.
A resident of Fairview New Jersey at the time of his passing. He will be survived by his mothers Clara Zapateiro and Aura Erazo, his two sisters Aura Victoria Vargas Zapateiro and Zoila Rosa Vargas Zapateiro, his two nephews Andres Hernandez and Mauricio Otero and his faithful dogs Ushki and Jack.
Juan loved spending time with his friends and family at his home backyard growing fruits and vegetables. Juan's love for learning transmuted into exciting traveling adventures which allowed him to broaden his teachings and his students to perceive learning as cool and fun.
He will be remembered by all of extended family members, friends, colleagues, former and recent students, and specially by all of those that he touched with his love and unique personality.
As we grieve the loss of this Angel, we take comfort in knowing that he will live forever in the lives he saved unselfishly. That his infectious personality will remain attached to all of those who knew him. And his commitment to teaching love through art will encourage his students to brighten the world that surrounds us.
Visitations for family and friends will be Wednesday August 16, from 4 - 8 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, August 17th, at 9:30 a.m., St. Joseph of the Palisades R.C. Church, in West New York, N.J.
