Hector Reynaldo "Bomberito" Zarzuela

Hector Reynaldo Zarzuela gained his wings in Heaven on Thursday January 7th, 2021. Hector was born June 3rd, 1937 in La Vega, Dominican Republic to his parents Pedro Maria Zarzuela and Cándida Rosa Taveras. Hector is survived by his wife of 51 years Altagracia Irene Zarzuela Villar and their three children Cándida, Jenny and Hector Jr.  Hector also leaves behind his two grandchildren Jeffrey and Hector III. Hector adored his family and aside from his family who he loved with all his heart; his other love was music – namely the trumpet. 

Hector’s musical career commenced at the tender age of 15 in a musical band of volunteer firefighters (Bomberos in Spanish) and thus his nickname of “Bomberito” emerged. Hector practiced several instruments, but through his excellence playing the trumpet that he was able to gain international acclaim as one of the most talented musicians in the Latin Music industry. Hector was one of the founders of the world famous ‘La Fania All Stars’ where he played alongside many greats such as Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco and Hector Lavoe. His discography and video appearance credits are extensive.  Hector served as a mentor to countless musicians worldwide, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to support the music industry. Hector will forever be remembered for his inspiring talent, dedication to raising his family, and his infectious smile which reflected his zest for life. 

Visitation for Hector will be on Wednesday, January 13th, 2021 from 3:00-7:00pm at Barquin Funeral Home.
