Joseph E. Fontana passed away on Saturday, November 30th, 2019 at his residence in Guttenberg, NJ.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to his late parents Ann Maridakis and Anthony Fontana.
Joseph was a creative director in the advertising industry, but his true love was music. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and was a pianist, guitarist and writer. His talents far surpassed his instrumental abilities; he was a composer of songs and jingles, arranged orchestral charts and did voice overs all with passion.
To Joe, his family came first. He was fiercely loyal and loving.
He is survived by his devoted companion, Liz Leite, his two loving daughters, Erica Pitegoff Fontana and Samantha Louise Fontana and her husband, Nikola Ragusa as well as his godson, Mark Provenzano.
He leaves behind his brother, Robert Fontana and his wife Vicky Dorn Fontana as well as his cousins, Nick & Kathy Titakis and Tom & Lori Durakis.
Above all else, Joe cherished every moment he had with his grandchildren, Juliette Elena & Lucy Isabelle Hoag-Fontana and Luke Sonny Ragusa.
Joseph was opinionated and outspoken, had a quick wit and incredible sense of humor. He could often be overheard quoting lines from his favorite movies and doing impressions of his favorite characters. Joe was affectionate, warm and generous.
Joe will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and partner, having brought joy and laughter to those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Joe’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 6th, 2019 at the Crematory Chapel at Green-Wood Cemetery promptly at 10:30 am.
